Reflection, Transmission and Absorption in a Soda-lime glass |
To determine reflection coefficient (R), and absorbtion coefficient (beta) by using the data files.
We have done the experiment in a nearly dark room. Origin the background light came from the computer monitor. IB is the backgound light intensity I0 is the light intensity without glass. IR is the reflected the light intensity. IT is the transmitted light intensity. In data files, first column is time in seconds and second column is the light intensity in %. Glass thickness = 19 mm Wavelength used = 650 nm (Diode Laser) |

Inverse Square Law | To test inverse square law for a power LED. Intensity data vs time data is collected at several distances (25cm, 30cm, 35cm, 40cm, 45cm, 50cm, 75cm, 100cm, 115cm). In data files, first column is time in seconds and second column is the light intensity in %. | Download
Diffraction from a single slit | To measure the wavelength of a Laser source by analysing diffraction pattern obtained from a single slit. In the experiment slit width was d=0.04 mm and distance between slit and the screen was L=99 cm. Only the raw data is given. | Download
Polarization | To investigate Malus Law. Laser light (peak wavelength = 650 nm) is passed through two polarizers. As the second polarizer (the analyzer) is rotated by hand, the relative light intensity is recorded as a function of the angle between the axes of polarization of the two polarizers. The angle is obtained using a Rotary Motion Sensor that is coupled to the polarizer with a drive belt. The plot of light intensity versus angle can be fitted to the square of the cosine of the angle. | Download
Absorption in a Soda-lime glass as a function of wavelength |
To determine tramsmittance, absorbance and absorption coefficient (beta) by using the data files.
In data files, first column is wavelength in nm and the second column is the light intensity Glass thickness = 19 mm Wavelength range used = 200-1100 nm |
