The Large Electron-Positron Collider (LEP)

LEP is an electron-positron collider. It has a circumference of 27km and is located in an underground 3.8 m diameter tunnel at a depth varying between 50 m and 170 m.
In the first phase of LEP operation, collisions where at a centre-of-mass energy of 91 GeV for the production of Z Bosons. In the second phase, LEP operated at higher energies for the production W+ W- Boson pairs and searches for new physics such as the Higgs Boson.
