Education

Osman Erkmen was born in Konya, Turkey in 1955. After high school education in Balıkesir High School (1978), he received the B.Sc. degree in Department of Biology from Middle East Technical University, Ankara in January 1985. He received the M.Sc. degree from Food Engineering from METU Gaziantep Campus, Gaziantep in June 1988. He received the Ph.D. degree from Department of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at Faculty of Medicine from University of Gaziantep in June 1994. He attended to Assist. Prof. Dr. in 1994 in Department of Food Engineering at University of Gaziantep. He obtained the degree of Assoc. Prof. in Food Microbiology in November 1999. He attended to Prof. Dr. in July 2004 in Department of Food Engineering at University of Gaziantep. He worked as research assistant in that department from 1995 to 1994 and he has been working as a lecturer in that department since 1994.

He has been lecturing on "General Microbiology", "Food Microbiology", "Food Sanitation", "Food Toxicology", "General Chemistry" and "Graduation Project" which are undergraduate courses, and "Advanced Food Microbiology" and "Methods to Determine Microbial Toxins" which are graduate courses. His current research interests include high pressure technology, pulsed electrical field, modified atmosphere packaging, industrial microbial products (such as vitamin, citric acid and yeast production), antimicrobial effects of natural and synthetic compounds, cheese production, microbial cultures used in food industry, uses of industrial by-products in food production, sanitation principles in Food production.

He is married to Ayşe and has two boys.
