R&A Center of Women’s Issues (GÜKAMER) established in 1997, providing education and training for illiterate women in socially and economically disadvantaged groups. The center works in cooperation with other local woman organizations such as Association of Women’s Issues, Turkish Association of University Women.

The aims of the center are to ensure the development of relationship and solidarity of women in their educational, cultural, social associated activities, to fight with ignorance and fanaticism about women, to develop intellectual and enlightened ideas and consciousness in the society, to endeavour to increase the proportion of the cultured and well-educated women under contemporary conditions, to improve the education and research on women’s studies, to increase the status of women in general. For these purposes, we are developing courses
(i) reading and writing;
(ii) to give/improve skills and knowledge in the fields of painting, local handicrafts, health care, child care, family planing and the similar;
(iii) job-oriented courses for employees/employers in coordination with Research and Application Center for the Preservation and Development of Gaziantep Handicrafts of the University of Gaziantep and Association of Women’s Issues.
The Administrative Committee consists of director, vice-director, and four members all of which are the teaching staff of the University. Counsellors Committee consists of teaching staff of the University and members of the local NGO’s.
