A Brief Introduction to University of Gaziantep TEKMER*

Introduction to University of Gaziantep Technology Development Centre

University of Gaziantep Technology Development Centre or University of Gaziantep TEKMER in short, has been established and activated with the collaboration agreement signed on December 25, 2004 by KOSGEB, University of Gaziantep, Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce, and Gaziantep Chamber of Industry, with the purpose of supporting technology-based Research and Development (R&D) projects of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME’s) in the framework of KOSGEB regulations.

University of Gaziantep TEKMER is serving in a building assigned by the University of Gaziantep in order to supply the industrial enterprises with the scientific and research facilities possessed by the university.

In addition to administrative offices, the centre includes R&D spaces allocated to supported enterprises, which are called workrooms. The enterprises can use the workrooms with ready-to-use infrastructure and communication facilities as electricity, water, internet connection, telephone, etc. This reduces the start-up expanses of new entrepreneurs and eases the cooperation of industrialists with the academics.

As R&D projects aimed at developing innovative products or improving production technologies are supported by the TEKMER Directorate, investment alternatives in high technologies are brought in and job opportunities are created for qualified individuals and researchers.

IRC Anatolia Gaziantep Office

University of Gaziantep TEKMER Directorate also operates as the Gaziantep node office of IRC Anatolia.

IRC (Innovation Relay Centre) Network has been established in 1995 with the support of the European Commission within the context of EU’s Framework Programme 6, in order to support SME’s and larger technology-oriented enterprises in the process of importing and exporting innovative technologies. IRC Anatolia is one of the two IRC’s in Turkey, which is one of the 33 countries covered by the IRC Network. The centre has the headquarters in Ankara and seven node offices in Adana, Çorum, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, Kayseri, Konya, and Samsun.

IRC Anatolia keeps in touch with the local innovative enterprises and cooperates with them in the process of building profiles and making technology offers and requests. The offers and requests are published in the IRC Network for the interest of related companies. When a network member is interested in the issue, IRC Anatolia aids in bringing the two companies together and provides consultancy in the technology transfer agreement procedure.

The services of IRC Anatolia are free of charge.

Enterprises can register to the IRC Anatolia Database through the centre website www.irc-anatolia.org.tr.
