Nuclear Physics has the aim of understanding the basic structure of atomic
nuclei in terms of the forces between their constituent neutrons and protons,
and developing new theories of nuclear interactions. There is a special emphasis
on the effects of nuclear spin and nuclear shape, on reactions that probe new
aspects of nuclear structure such as nuclear halos, and on the structure of
nuclei with unusual proportions of neutrons and protons.

Computational nuclear theory is
carried out using University Academic
Computing Center facilities (DEC's VAXvector
6000-520 and Alpha 4000 5/400 VMS and a
LINUX system ) together with our department
LINUX server, and is based on advanced
mathematical techniques of quantum mechanics
as applied to few-body (at present only
three-body) models of nuclear processes.
NPG also performs some
projects on the use of Nuclear Physics
and High-tech Applications for
environmental protection and industry.
Physisists,
Dr. Jeffry. A. TOSTEVIN from the
University of Surrey, Guildford (UK) and
Prof. Dr. Viladimir I. KUKULIN from
Moskow State University (Russia),
collaborates in theoretical and applied
nuclear physics researches, respectively.
